Fiorilli Construction was hired to the be general contractor on this $4.5 million – five-story stair and elevator tower for Cleveland State University. The goal to enhance the University’s Chester Avenue presence and provide better access to the main campus core.

Faced with the challenge to build a 5-story extension to the main campus classrooms with an elevator at an intersection that has one sidewalk width of logistical area and a main artery for pedestrian student traffic through the project that could not be rerouted, over the main utility bank to CSU, and including EDGE participation. Fiorilli prepared traffic study analysis and logistical planning to allow for the proper sequencing of construction activities both off-hours and around student pedestrian traffic patterns, as well as unique safety solutions during construction.

Working with architect CBLH Design the project consisted of pre-cast concrete, aluminum curtain wall, two elevators, and a stairwell connecting the new tower to the existing main classroom building. Interior work includes drywall, acoustical ceiling tiles, vinyl composition tile, sprinkler system, electrical, mechanical, and additional finishes. The Project was completed on time, zero safety incidents were reported, and no interruption to student pedestrian traffic flow the entire course of the project.
